Ignorance is bliss

Today after finishing my work, as usual, i walked out towards my car with my colleague Ketan to head back home. When i reached near the car, all of a sudden, i happened to look at my name plate and noticied the letters MAR 08 return on the sticker right above the letters KATHA. It din't take me long to realize i had not got my name plate registered for this year and somehow had got slipped out of my mind ( Me and my memory Ahhhh!! ) . I told Ketan the same and got into the car murmuring i should head back home and first get it registered online else i may get caught by a cop and may have to pay fine or may get a ticket as well, was not sure.

I started driving but a bit carefully ( usually a reckless driver but today wanted to be out of anybody's sight, especially overland park cop's ;)). Ketan as well noticied the same and commented " How come driving pretty smooth today ". I smiled and carried on.

Just before i could reach Metaclf exit, Ketan noticied a cop in our way a few yards away and said to me " Maamu, par teekh hain. You are within the limits ". I was already driving with precaution and this made me go phew!!. I just passed the cop and was constantly looking into my rear view to check if the colorful lights were on :). Within a second i could notice the cop started moving and was right behind the car which was behind me ( with lights off though ). Was i Paranoid for a while?, I said Ketan " Yeah cop humhare peeche kyun aane lag gaya ? I hope he did not observe. Why do i forget things ? " I was still blabbering when we reached near the exit we had to take. Ketan commented "Dyan se". But my eyes still stick to the rear view mirror and i took a turn just hoping the cop would head further and not take the exit. Lucky me he did 'nt :). Oops!!!. I was so happy i started moving my right hand with joy and said "Hurray!!! gaya". Ketan wanted to take some more fun and said " Nahi ho agle exit le raha hain dekho ". We both laughed and headed on making comments on what had happended. As soon as i reached home, i grabbed my lappy to do the righteous before my memory could any more taunt me ;).

Until today evening i did drove the car everyday but since i did not know i was at fault, i never worried, never took precaution and drove recklessly, with confidence ( i enjoy breaking this rule ;) ). As soon as i came to know i have breached a rule ( it was a miss not purposefully done ) and there is no way i can rectify it without breaking some more rules knowingly, the whole thought process had changed :). If it were to be a regular day may be i would not even have bothered to look at what the cop would have done. But the whole mindset with which i started drving made the situation look very different and my reaction to it as well. Sometimes "Ignorance is definitely a bliss" :D Don't you think so?
